This photograph captures what it means to leave without knowing exactly what comes next.

What stays with me is the perspective. We are looking down from above, almost as if we are seeing the scene through the eyes of someone who is already outside the family’s world. The adults are loading what they can carry. The children stand below, watching, waiting, perhaps wondering where they are going.

The entire household seems reduced to what can fit into a car and trailer. Furniture, belongings, people—all gathered together for another move in search of work. Yet the photograph does not feel like a picture of a journey beginning. It feels like a pause between one uncertain place and another.
